38 Ford Flatbed
Named "War Horse Trucking"
Owner's Arnold Lee Kruse and Brian C. Bonderson---Pleasanton, California
Arnold is 47 years and is semi-retired from owner/operator of War Horse Trucking CO. He is now back in College to improve himself. Brian is 22 Years old (Arnolds third cousin) who has been living with Arnold since he was 12. Brian is also enrolled in college.
Arnold first bought the 38 in 1970 and paid $100. It was not running, but was in very good shape. He took the Flathead engine out and replaced it with a 283 Chevy. That engine in front of that old three speed transmission and wishbone rear end only lasted as long as he did not try to burn out. Needless to say he went through four transmissions. Being tired of replacing transmissions, the last one went around 1973, he stated to replace the components with more up to date equipment. He had the 38 in pieces, cab here, frame there, and parts all over the place. He started a trucking company and was never really home to work on the truck. Then in 1986, his third cousin Brian came to live with him. Brian was only 12 but was always eyeballing that truck in the back yard. Since Arnold had a 57 Chevy that had not been running for a while, he decided that Brian could fix up the 38 ford. So in the summer of 1993 they talked Roy Brixio Street Rods into taking on the project. At first they were not going to do as much as they did. One of the main concerns was being able to drag race the truck in NHRA events so everything had to pass tech inspection. Another concern was that it had to have a big block. At first nobody really cared what they were doing, but the further they when the more interested the people working on it became. Everything must have came out right because they entered the Oakland Roadster Show in 1995 and took first place in custom rod pickup.
